Experience the Benefits of Holistic Dentistry
At Larsen Family Dental, we practice conservative dentistry while focusing on a whole-body approach, and are mindful of how your oral health affects your general well-being. Dr. Paul C. Larsen promotes a safe and healthy implementation of modern dental techniques through holistic dentistry at our Bountiful, UT, clinic. Dr. Larsen offers biocompatible restorations which are free of metals and BPA, safe amalgam filling removal, and the use of advanced technology to limit radiation exposure for his patients.
What is Holistic Dentistry?
Unlike traditional dentistry, which treats the symptoms of an oral disease, holistic dentistry focuses on the underlying problems that cause these symptoms. Also called biological dentistry, this method functions on the premise that oral health is connected to a patient's overall health.
Dr. Larsen offers biocompatible restorations which are free of metals and BPA, safe amalgam filling removal, and procedures designed to limit radiation exposure for his patients.
At Larsen Family Dental, we emphasize prevention and early intervention, and oppose the use of amalgam fillings which contain mercury. As a holistic dentist who uses the most conservative means of diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Larsen can ensure his cosmetic and restorative treatment will not have an adverse affect on your health. We use biocompatible and BPA-free materials, such as non-metal restorations and all-porcelain crowns, and often work with healthcare professionals who promote integrated care.
A Safe Approach to Modern Dentistry
Dr. Larsen keeps abreast of the latest technological advances. Because of this commitment, he is able to provide several innovative tools for the benefit of his patients.
We use ozone therapy in several types of procedures to eradicate bacteria, effectively halting early decay and cavity formation. The therapy can also be used to fight periodontal disease and to sterilize the treatment area before a root canal procedure.
Amalgam Filling Removal
If you are concerned with old amalgam fillings, Dr. Larsen can safely remove the restorations at our practice and replace them with tooth-colored composite fillings. Performed incorrectly, grinding metal fillings during the removal process can expose patients to additional mercury. Dr. Larsen follows the standard protocol of safe removal and uses powerful suction or evacuation systems for removing restorations. If diagnostic tests reveal the presence of mercury, either due to your amalgam fillings or excessive seafood consumption, Dr. Larsen can recommend supplements to detoxify your body and strengthen your immune system.
If you have misaligned teeth or an imbalanced bite, your temporomandibular joints (TMJs) can become strained. This can lead to the development of TMJ disorder (TMD), a complex condition that may cause severe headaches, clenching and grinding, and other painful symptoms. Dr. Larsen offers the nociceptive trigeminal inhibition (NTI) tension suppression system to manage teeth grinding and other symptoms associated with TMD. The NTI system works by imposing a barrier between a patient's mandibular and maxillary teeth.
Advanced Caries Detection Device
Our patients can also benefit from an advanced cavity detection device called the CariVu™ system. This machine uses infrared transillumination to capture images that can help diagnose cracks and caries that are sometimes not visible on x-rays. Since it does not emit ionizing radiation, the CariVu™ is an effective alternative for patients who want to reduce radiation exposure. The technology is also beneficial to those who have difficulty with the rigid sensors of a traditional x-ray machine.
