Restore the Structure of Damaged Teeth with Dental Crowns
For patients with significant tooth damage, a dental crown can improve the aesthetics and function of your smile. Dental crowns are lifelike restorations that cover the entire visible portion of the tooth, addressing dental concerns such as chips, cracks, fractures, or extensive decay. At Larsen Family Dental in Bountiful, UT, we are dedicated to helping our patients achieve and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile. Dr. Paul C. Larsen provides high quality restorative and cosmetic care, focusing on personalized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a customized dental prosthetic that encases a damaged tooth to restore its natural shape, size, and strength. At our holistic practice, we use only the safest and most durable dental crown material to protect the overall health of our patients. Crowns can be used for a variety of restorative and cosmetic treatments. During your consultation, our team will conduct a thorough examination of your smile and create an individualized treatment plan suited to your needs.
You may be in need of a dental crown if one or more of your teeth have been compromised due to damage or decay. Crowns can hold a dental bridge in place if you are missing one or more consecutive teeth. In addition, dental crowns are often used in conjunction with dental implants to replace missing teeth. For patients with large cavities that cannot be restored with dental fillings, Dr. Larsen may recommend a dental crown as a long-lasting solution.
For patients suffering from enamel erosion, Dr. Larsen may recommend a dental crown to strengthen the structure of the tooth. In addition, dental crowns can be used to reshape teeth that appear short or worn, or to conceal significant dental discoloration.
This restorative treatment can be completed in as little as two visits. During your first appointment, Dr. Larsen will administer a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. We also offer sedation options to help you relax during treatment. Once you are ready, Dr. Larsen will prepare your tooth by gently removing any damaged areas. He will then reshape your tooth, so your custom restoration fits comfortably in your bite. As we take a conservative approach to dental procedures, we will preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible.

Once the tooth has been prepared, we will take an impression of your bite, which will be used to craft your custom restoration. We will then send these impressions to a trusted dental laboratory, where your dental crown will be manufactured. This process can take one to two weeks. In the interim, we may place a temporary crown until your permanent restoration is ready. During your follow-up visit, Dr. Larsen will replace your temporary crown with your custom restoration. He will secure it in place with dental cement, for long-lasting results.
